Foundation Year and Pre-Masters
Often, to gain admission to a British university—whether for an undergraduate or postgraduate program—students first need to complete a preparatory course. There are various reasons for this: insufficient level of secondary education, insufficient English proficiency, the need to adapt to an academic environment, or a desire to gain a deeper understanding of the British education system before beginning full-time studies.
The Foundation program is an intensive up to 9-month course specifically designed for international students planning to enter the first year of a UK bachelor’s degree. Within this program, students choose a subject pathway, such as:

A major component of the course is dedicated to academic English, subject-specific terminology, and familiarisation with the British higher education system. This comprehensive approach ensures students are well-prepared and confident as they begin their university journey.
The International Year 1 program is another unique preparatory program, lasting one academic year, which combines the program for preparing international students for studying in the UK and the first year of a British university. Thus, by enrolling in this program, students do not lose one year and, after successful completion, they move on to the second year with the rest of the cohort.
The Pre-Masters program is a 2–3 month course for those planning to enroll in a Master’s program in the UK. The program also includes choosing a major, studying specialised subjects, and academic English.
